There are many kinds of Operating Systems in the world but it is difficult to find out secure operating system. There are some popular operating systems in the market lets see the most secure operating systems. No matter how secure you think you might be there is something malicious can always happen. Because, "With the right tools and Talent, a Computer is an open book."
Nearly every Operating System is designed with Security as a requirement.
1. OpenBSD : OpenBSD's security enhancements, built-in cryptography, and the pf packet filter suit it for use in the security industry, such as on firewalls,Intrusion-detection systems, and VPN gateways.OpenBSD lacks a large enough attack surface (care of running numerous web applications) for hackers to exploit
2. Linux :
The Linux family of products has provided a highly secure environment since its original delivery :
SecurityEnhanced Linux (SELinux) [10]
Compiler and library enhancements [11]
Advanced glibc memory corruption checker [11]
Secure version of the printf and other string manipulation functions. [11]
gcc buffer bound checking [11]
3. MAC OS X :This Apple-made OS handles user permissions better than, say Windows XP, but it still contains an indecent number of vulnerabilities and remote exploits in its systems. That, coupled with Apple's slow response to many of its security issues, has landed this operating system at the bottom of this list.
4. Windows Server 2008 : Microsoft operating system's security at the very least. There are improvement in security like : Support for 128- and 256-bit AES encryption for the Kerberos authentication protocol.
New cryptography (CNG) API which supports elliptic curve cryptography and improved certificate management.
Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol, a new Microsoft proprietary VPN protocol.
AuthIP, a Microsoft proprietary extension of the IKE cryptographic protocol used in IPsec VPN networks.
5. Windows Server 2000 : This operating system is so secure that it took nearly a decade before Microsoft can come up with a better one. This OS for network servers, notebook computers, and corporate workstations.
6. HP-UX 11i : It is not one of the most commercially successful operating systems in the market today, this Unix-based Hewlett-Packard OS has been included in this list because of its superior security policies to several more popular operating systems namely, Mac OS X, Solaris, and Linux.
7. Solaris : Solaris is Unix operating system,It is not most secure but based on unix operating system so there is all codes of security but it is not inherently security-focused. Because of certain business related circumstances.
Remember Always install the latest patches-Updates for the Operating System that you are using.
